Mountain View Woodworks is located in beautiful Sandpoint Idaho. The surrounding mountains, lakes, rivers, and wildlife provide artists with endless inspiration! We are a small family owned and operated company which gives us the opportunity to give excellent attention to detail on all our unique artisan products. “Keeping it small” allows us to provide our customers with one-of-a-kind products, giving each order special attention. We take pride in customer service and strive to make each customer satisfied!
Owner and craftsman David Gilchrist has an extensive history of woodworking which began in 1995 with a furniture manufacturing company. Over the course of 12 years he built rustic pine furniture, later working with aged barn-wood to build tables, chairs, armoires, and other pieces. David has also worked with hard-woods such as cherry and maple designing and building fine furniture pieces. In 2006 David discovered the satisfaction of working with clear western red cedar and began designing and manufacturing screen doors that are architecturally complimentary. This prompted the founding of Mountain View Woodworks which also coincided with the birth of David’s first daughter. Suddenly owning a family-run business became very important!
David has worked with many different types of wood, but finds western red cedar to be his favorite because “it has so many different and unique colors and patterns, the character and figures are exceptional. We are also able to obtain a local source of western red cedar, therefore supporting our local economy, which is very important in a small community”. When David is not in the shop, he enjoys fly-fishing in the rivers of Idaho and Montana, riding his bike, organic gardening, and spending time with his family.
